Cycling: Pogacar wins Tirreno-Adriatico, van Aert victorious on closing stage

Tadej Pogacar won Tirreno-Adriatico on Tuesday after finishing in fourth place on the seventh and final stage - an individual time trial that was won by overall runner-up Wout van Aert. Van Aert started the day 75 seconds behind UAE Team Emirates rider Pogacar at the top of the general classification. Although the Belgian would cut the gap by completing the 11.1-kilometre course in and around San Benedetto del Tronto in 11 minutes and six seconds, Pogacar finished just 12 seconds in arrears. That meant the Slovenia added a maiden Tirreno-Adriatico title to the Tour de France crown he captured last year. Stefan Kung and Filippo Ganna finished the stage in second and third place - six and 11 seconds off van Aert's time respectively - while Mikel Landa ended up down in 79th, which was enough to clinch third place overall.
