Cycling News : Tony Martin ends pro career with rainbow jersey as Germany win mixed relay

Tony Martin brought the curtain down on his professional career in style on Wednesday as Germany won the mixed relay time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Flanders, Belgium. Martin - a four-time former time trial world champion - Nikias Arndt and Max Walscheid rode the first leg for Germany before handing over to Lisa Brennauer, Lisa Klein, Mieke Kroger. The German sextet completed the combined 44.5 kilometres from Knokke-Heist to Bruges in a time of 50 minutes and 49.10 seconds. Netherlands' team, which included women's individual time trial gold medallist Ellen van Dijk and bronze medallist Annemiek van Vleuten, finished in second place, 12.79 seconds off Germany's pace. Italy completed the podium positions.
