Cycling: Adam Yates wins Volta a Catalunya, Thomas de Gendt takes final stage

Adam Yates won the 100th edition of Volta a Catalunya on Sunday, while Thomas de Gendt claimed victory in the seventh and final stage of the race. Leading the stage alongside Matej Mohoric, de Gendt attacked the Slovenian on a climb five kilometres from the end of the 133-kilometre course, which started and finished in Barcelona. De Gendt eased to the stage win, with Mohoric crossing the finishing line 22 seconds in arrears of the Belgian. Attila Valter took third place, leading a group that included overall victor Yates, who had finished as runner-up behind Miguel Angel Lopez in the previous edition of the race in 2019. The Briton's Ineos Grenadiers team-mates Richie Porte and Geraint Thomas finished in the same group to respectively secure second and third place overall.
