Golf: Reigning champion Bubba Watson ousted in second round of WGC Match Play

Day two at a windy WGC Match Play in Austin on Friday and a number of big names were eliminated from the knockout phase by a second straight defeat in their group matches. For a third year in a row the reigning champion won't reach the weekend after Bubba Watson was beaten 2 and 1 by Billy Horschel. Phil Mickelson won't be there either - he lost 1up to Jim Furyk - and neither will two-time former champion Jason Day following a 4 and 3 defeat to Henrik Stenson. Fortunately for Tiger Woods, his win over Aaron Wise on Thursday insulated him against a scratchy 2 and 1 reverse against Brandt Snedeker and his fate is still in his own hands. There were regulation wins for the likes of Jordan Speith, Francesco Molinari, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, but world number one Dustin Johnson's putter deserted him in defeat to Brandon Grace on the final green. He's still alive in the competition though - unlike number three seed Brooks Koepka, who joined the eliminated list when he was beaten 1up by Li Haotong of China in the final match of the day.
