Golf: Johnson, Woods and McIlroy win on day one of the WGC Match Play

World number five Justin Thomas 3 & 2 defeat to Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard was the big upset in the first day of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, Texas on Wednesday. World number one and 2017 winner Dustin Johnson enjoyed a 4&3 victory over Chez Reavie, while Tiger Woods claimed a 3 &n 1 win against Aaron Wise, Rory McIlroy cruised past Luke List 5&4 and Jon Rahm enjoyed the biggest winning margin of the day with a 7&5 thrashing of Si Woo Kim. Justin Rose defeated Argentina's Emiliano Grillo 2&1, while Brooke Koepka halved with Tom Lewis. There were also wins for Tommy Fleetwood, Francesco Molinari, Tyrrell Hatton, Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, and Thorbjorn Olesen. The 64 players are split into 16 groups of four, with only the group winners advancing to the knockout stages at the weekend.
