Football News: Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur 'planning 2024 move for Evan Ferguson'

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Evan Ferguson. Ferguson was generally only known in Ireland when he left Bohemians for the Amex Stadium in January 2021.

Ferguson, despite being only 18 years old, is currently regarded as one of the most highly rated teenagers in international football. Ferguson has 10 goals and three assists from 25 appearances in all competitions.

Moreover, the Irishman has registered six goals and two assists from 821 minutes of top-flight action in 2022-23.

That kind of influence has led to an increasing number of clubs showing interest in a man who has three Republic of Ireland caps.

Brighton were able to respond by offering Ferguson a new long-term contract, tying him to the European newcomers until 2028.

Nonetheless, Sky Sports News reports that the Seagulls should not anticipate interest in his signature to fade in the near or long term.

According to the source, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are already laying the groundwork to capture Ferguson during the summer transfer window of 2024.

Brighton are reportedly hoping that Ferguson may become a £100 million+ player if his present trajectory continues, which would require more than another year of football.

As things stand, that level of price is unlikely to come from United or Tottenham, although both clubs are said to see Ferguson as a long-term option in the centre of their attack.

United manager Erik ten Hag is looking for at least one new signing this summer, with Anthony Martial likely leaving and Wout Weghorst returning to parent club Burnley.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane has just over 13 months left on his Spurs deal, which can only guarantee him Europa League participation for 2023-24 at best.

United may make a move for Kane in the coming weeks, but it is unknown whether they will be willing to pay at least £100 million for the England international and whether Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will sell to a rival club.
