Baseball: Yankees GM says news of Tanaka receiving racist abuse is 'heartbreaking'

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman called a report that former pitcher Masahiro Tanaka received racist abuse during his final year with the team "heartbreaking". The former Yankees right-hander was quoted by a Japanese newspaper as saying his decision to return and pitch in Japan this year factored in racism he and his family faced last year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Cashman said Tanaka never told him about the situation. "I feel horrible, obviously," Cashman said. "There is no place in this world for racism. So it's heartbreaking to hear any of these stories that come out, whether you're in the game of baseball or outside the game of baseball."
