Formula one News: Lewis Hamilton extends his Mercedes contract till 2020

Formula One’s golden boy Lewis Hamilton has agreed a new deal with Mercedes after months of negotiations and suspense around his future. The 33-year-old Briton has signed a new contract with the German manufacturer that lasts until the end of 2020. The deal signed by Lewis is worth approximately 40 million pounds. Hamilton would have been out of contract at the end of this season and the negotiations have been a major talking point for this season. There were rumors that Hamilton could join Ferrari but it looked very unlikely as Ferrari is committed to Sebastian Vettel until 2020 and the teams don’t really like having two A-listers in the cockpit at the same time. His current teammate Valtteri Bottas is also out of contract at the end of the year, but is likely to be resigned by Mercedes. Mercedes have dominated F1 since 2014, winning four consecutive drivers' and constructors' championship. Hamilton has won three of those titles, with the fourth going to former team-mate Nico Rosberg, who retired after becoming champion in 2016. Hamilton's first world title came with McLaren, using Mercedes engines, in 2008. Currently he is second in 2018 Formula One standing for the driver’s championship trailing Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari by 8 points.
