Hockey News : Md. Shahid's widow wins partial battle

We are the voice of Sports and recently we raised the issue of Indian hockey legend late Mohammad Shahid and the government has now taken notice of it and has assured his family of fulfilling the promise they made a year before. Mohammad Shahid’s wife is fighting a battle to keep her husband’s name alive and recently on our show she opened her heart out and explained what she is going through. On Friday, Government representative sports director Dr. R P Singh met Parveen Shahid at their residence in Varanasi and assured them the assistance. He said that the Directorate of Sports will now hold an All India Prize Money Contest in memory of Padma shree Mohammed Shahid in Varanasi every year. He also said that the tournament will be announced once Hockey India locks down the dates. Moreover, the winner of the tournament will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and the first runner up will get Rs one lakh. The second runners up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 50 thousand.
