Football: Inter Milan edge Sampdoria 2-1 to remain third in Serie A

Despite the absence of striker Mauro Icardi, Inter Milan managed to beat Sampdoria 2-1 in Serie A, with all three goals coming in a five-minute spell in the second half. In an open game, both teams went close on several occasions before Inter broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute with Danilo D'Ambrosio volleying into the roof of the net from close range after good work from Ivan Perisic. Manolo Gabbiadini levelled with his first touch just three minutes later, seconds after coming on. The hosts restored their lead two minutes later when a corner was knocked out to Radja Nainggolan, who fired into the bottom left corner. Inter remain third but moved four points clear of fourth-placed AC Milan.
