Cycling : Elia Viviani outsprints Peter Sagan to win Stage 3 of Tirreno-Adriatico

Home favourite Elia Viviani outlasted Peter Sagan to win Stage 3 of the Tirreno-Adriatico UCI World Tour road race in Italy on Friday. A 226 kilometre (140.5 mile) route between Pomarance and Foligno was geared up for a bunch sprint and so it proved, but not before a six-strong group got away from the peloton early on. The last of them was finally caught four kilometres from the finish and riders gathered themselves for the final push. Triple world champion Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) was the first to accellerate, but Viviani (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) timed his effort to perfection and caught the Slovakian inside the final 50 metres. Colombia's Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) finished a close third. Viviani's fourth stage victory of the season had little effect on the overall standings - Adam Yates retains the leader's blue jersey, with nearest rival Primoz Roglic seven seconds down.
