WBA super-middleweight world champion, Callum Smith, believes he has the style to create one of the biggest upsets in British boxing history by beating four-weight world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on Saturday. 30-year-old Smith (27-0, 19 KOs), who won the WBA strap by knocking out fellow Brit George Groves in the 2018 final of the World Boxing Super Series, will make his first appearance in the ring since winning a unanimous decision against John Ryder in his hometown of Liverpool last November. He will be looking to get revenge for Alvarez knocking out his older brother, Liam, in 2016, capturing his light-middleweight WBO strap. Since then Alvarez (53-1-2, 37KOs) has unified the middleweight division, across two epic fights with Gennady Golovkin, and even won a world title in a fourth weight division, knocking out WBO light heavyweight belt holder Sergey Kovalev in his last fight on November 2nd 2019. The only boxer to defeat Alvarez across a glittering career was Floyd Mayweather in 2013. The fight, which was only announced by Canelo's team on November 17th, will take place in front of 12,000 fans at San Antonio's Alamodome in Texas with the vacant WBC super-middleweight title also on the line.
