Hockey News: Hockey legend Mohd Shahid's widow upset with govt, blame game continues

In yet another case of a promise not being kept, Parveen Shahid, wife of hockey legend Mohd Shahid has said that despite assurances, the UP government is yet to honour its promise of hosting a annual national level hockey tournament in Shahid’s name. About three weeks ago, UP Sports Director RP Singh, had met Parveen and assured her that a national tournament would be held in Shahid’s name. But the dates of this tournament are yet to be announced. It must be mentioned here that Parveen had threatened to return the awards earned by the legendary hockey player to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July. Immediately after this, the U.P state government had sent R.P Singh to meet her and do the needful. Now, after almost a month, the legend’s wife is yet to receive any official confirmation from the government. Parveen Shahid has alleged that in the beginning she was promised that a solution will be provided as soon as possible but with passing days it seems that the government has turned a deaf ear towards the legend’s wife. She claims that now the sports director and the concerned people are no more picking up her calls and if they do they do not give any satisfactory answer. The late legend’s wife is now gearing up once again to continue her fight to keep her husband’s name alive. She has said that she will surely come to Delhi and return the awards in a few days if she does not receive any confirmed answer.
