Football News : Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Djed Spence

Djed Spence has been acquired by Tottenham Hotspur from Middlesbrough.
The 21-year-old has joined the Lilywhites as their sixth summer signing, following Clement Lenglet, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, and Richarlison.

Spence played a crucial part in the Tricky Trees' promotion to the Premier League while on loan at Nottingham Forest during the 2021-22 season.

Spence scored three goals and provided five assists in 46 games for Steve Cooper's team, who also advanced to the FA Cup quarterfinals before losing to Liverpool.

Prior to joining Middlesbrough in 2018, the England Under-21 international was a Fulham academy graduate. During that time, he made 70 appearances for the Championship club and scored twice.

In addition, Spence's achievements earned him a spot in the PFA Championship Team of the Year and the EFL Championship Team of the Season for the 2021-22 season.

Spence has signed a five-year contract with Tottenham that runs until the summer of 2027, despite the North London club's initial struggles to reach a deal with Boro.

Daniel Levy, the chairman of Spurs, was in charge of negotiations with Chris Wilder's team while Fabio Paratici was concentrating on targets abroad.

Spurs and Middlesbrough did, however, reach an agreement last week, and it is said that the North London club will pay an upfront fee of £12.5 million for the defender.

With performance-related add-ons, Boro might earn up to £20 million, and it was rumoured that the good working connection between Levy and his Middlesbrough counterpart Steve Gibson was essential to closing the deal.

Arsenal, a rival team in North London, was also rumoured to be interested in signing Spence, but Tottenham moved ahead of their capital rivals in the battle.
Spence will move to North London to battle for the right-wing back position with players like Lucas Moura, Matt Doherty, and Emerson Royal, but Royal is still being linked to a move away.

Prior to the official announcement of his signing, social media users posted pictures of Spence completing media responsibilities. The young player might now make his debut in Saturday's exhibition game against Rangers at Ibrox.

This summer, Tottenham has already defeated a K-League team 6-3 and drawn 1-1 with Sevilla. On July 30, Tottenham will play Roma in the I-Tech Cup in Israel, reuniting with Jose Mourinho.

The Premier League season for Antonio Conte's team will therefore get underway against Southampton at home on August 6.
