Football News : Erik ten Hag gives an update on Cristiano Ronaldo transfer situation

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has reiterated that he still intends to keep Cristiano Ronaldo with the team for the upcoming season. The Dutchman is said to have included Ronaldo in his game plan for the upcoming few years.

In order to continue playing in the Champions League at this point in his career, the 37-year-old has informed the Red Devils that he wants to leave this summer. Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain were supposed to be in the running to sign him.

However, they have reportedly all decided against doing so in the current market.

Due to a private matter, Ronaldo did not travel with the Man United team on their preseason tour of Thailand and Australia.

The seasoned striker will be a part of Ten Hag's squad for the 2022-23 season, and he has also stated that he might continue at the club until June 2024. Atletico Madrid is the most recent club to be aggressively associated with the Portugal international.

"I am well-informed he also has an option (to extend his contract), eh? Yes (he could stay beyond this season), but to be honest, of course I have signed here for three years, but in football it's short-term as well. We have to win from the start. So I don't look that far ahead,"

The Manchester Evening News Quotes Ten Hag as saying.

"I have a strategy, it's a process, it takes time, but in the end we have to make sure from the outset there is a winning team."

Although there has been "no change"to the issue, Ten Hag has acknowledged that he is unsure of when Ronaldo will return to the club's Carrington training facility.

"The same status as last week in Bangkok: no change. I cannot tell you (when he will be back at Carrington). No change in the issue. He is training. I think we all know Ronaldo is a top professional and he will be fit. That is the last concern I have," he added.

"In his career, he has shown everything. I have set my demand. We want to play in a certain way. A top player can contribute and Ronaldo is an absolute top player in our squad. The players dictate the way you play. Especially players who score goals because they are extremely important for a team. You construct your team around them."

Although there has been "no change" to the issue, Ten Hag has acknowledged that he is unsure of when Ronaldo will return to the club's Carrington training facility.

In 37 club games last season, Ronaldo, who has denied that he is in negotiations about returning to Sporting Lisbon, scored 24 goals and recorded three assists.

But after ten Hag's comments it is quite clear that Mr. no. 7 and former Real Madrid forward will be staying at Old Trafford at least for this season.
