Tennis: Sloane Stephens reaches the semi-finals of Rogers Cup

Sloan Stephens cruised into the last four of the Rogers Cup on Friday, beating Latvian Anastasija Sevastova 6-2, 6-2 in Montreal. The American dropped just four games to return to the semi-finals of the tournament for the second consecutive year, breaking Sevastova three times in the first set. Sevastova only managed to break third seed Stephens once during the match, in the first set to pull back a game for 5-1. But despite some late resistance from the Latvian, it was a comfortable first set for Stephens. The world number three continued where she left off and broke Sevastova straight away in the second set, and looked pretty comfortable thereon. She struck 18 winners to reach the semi-finals in just 69 minutes.
