Tennis News : Federer withdraws from French Open, a day after reaching fourth round

20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer has withdrawn from the French Open following a statement posted on Sunday. The 39-year-old overcame Dominik Koepfer of Germany in the early hours of Sunday morning after a gruelling third round match which lasted for over three and a half hours. Federer underwent two knee surgeries in 2020 and warned he may pull out to protect his body in his post-match press conference. "It's important that I listen to my body and make sure I don't push myself too quickly on my road to recovery", the statement read. The Swiss is due to begin his grass court season at the Halle Open on June 12th, with Wimbledon starting on June 28th.
