Olympic Games: GB Chef de Mission expects Olympic Games to take place

Team GB's Chef de Mission has said he is 'supremely confident' that the Olympic Games will take place in Tokyo as planned later this year. Mark England also believes that events will be staged in front of full stadiums but that crowds are likely to be made up of Japanese locals and not from overseas visitors. His comments come on the same day that polls in Japan show around 80% of the public want the Games postponed or cancelled. Tokyo and its surrounding areas are currently under a state of emergency because of surging coronavirus cases. England also said mandatory vaccinations for those competing in Tokyo was not currently being discussed.
