Football News: Manchester United now interested in signing Joao Felix

Manchester United are allegedly still interested in Joao Felix despite turning down a loan move in January. Instead, Felix joined Chelsea, leaving Wanda Metropolitano due to his sour relation with Diego Simeone.

The Portugal international was sent off on his Blues debut against Fulham on January 12. As a result of which the Portuguese forward suffered a 3-match suspension.

But he has since made a strong impression, scoring against West Ham United and Everton in the Premier League. Because there is no buy option in Chelsea's loan agreement, Felix will have to return to his parent club post this season.

Despite the fact that he has four years left on his contract, the 23-year-old's long term future in Madrid is in serious doubt. Meanwhile, Man United are thought to have a long-term interest in Felix since the forward joined Atletico from Benfica in 2019.

Erik ten Hag's side ultimately decided against pursuing a loan move in January. This was due to the cost of the transaction, thus, they instead decided on loaning Burnley's Wout Weghorst.

However, the Red Devils will be looking for a big-money forward this summer. Moreover, according to AS, Manchester United has already contacted Atletico to express their interest.

In 131 appearances for Atletico Madrid in all competitions, the Portuguese has 34 goals and 18 assists.

In 14 La Liga games for Simeone's team in the first half of this season, he managed four goals and three assists, while also representing his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

This summer, Atletico Madrid are expected to ask around €100 million (£88 million) for Felix, making him a cheaper option than both Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea are thought to be interested in signing the attacker on a permanent basis this summer, but they may find it tough to get him to sign a long-term contract if they do not have Champions League football next season.

Graham Potter's side are currently 10th in the table, 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, but winning the 2022-23 European Cup would qualify them for next season's Champions League.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are third in the Premier League, three points ahead of fifth-placed Newcastle United.

The Red Devils have yet to make firm plans for the summer window, however, because there is still uncertainty surrounding the club's ownership, while the Glazers negotiating a sale.
