Football News : Chelsea & Atletico Madrid are still interested in signing Ronaldo

According to a source, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are still interested in signing Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo. After the Red Devils missed out on the Champions League last season, the 37-year-old has been extensively linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

While Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo's agent, is rumoured to have spoken with a number of prospective suitors, Ronaldo is said to have voiced his wish to leave the club. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been connected with moves to top-notch clubs namely,

Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli, and Sporting Lisbon, but earlier this summer, rumours stated that they had declined the chance to sign him.

But according to The Sun and Sky Sports News writer Kaveh Solhekol, a Ronaldo transfer to Chelsea or Atletico Madrid is not yet ruled out. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner's departures have left Chelsea searching for a new center-forward, and according to The Sun, new owner Todd Boehly is intrigued by the idea of bringing Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge.

While Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann, and Matheus Cunha's futures are uncertain, and the latter has been heavily linked to a move to Manchester United, Atletico may also be looking to add attacking reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Senior officials at Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, according to a different report from Sky Sports News, are not persuaded that they should sign the attacker this summer.

Enrique Cerezo, the president of La Liga's Atletico, said last month that the club had no intention of signing the former Real Madrid player this summer.

Speaking to El Partidazo de COPE, Cerezo said:

"I don't know who invented the story of [Ronaldo], but it's practically impossible for him to come to Atletico de Madrid."

Ronaldo is thought to have become dissatisfied at United over the summer, and it is claimed that his unfavourable presence there has lowered the team's spirits.

According to a recent story, senior United officials are ready to cut ties with Ronaldo after learning how the Portuguese international's mood quickly destroyed the wonderful energy the team had at the start of preseason.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 39 appearances for United in all competitions after joining from Juventus last summer, but he and the team finished the 2021-22 season without a trophy.

Since then, Ronaldo has appeared in both of their opening two Premier League games, playing the entire 90 minutes in their dreadful 4-0 away loss at Brentford last weekend after coming off the bench in their 2-1 home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The forward, whose contract has just one year left, is expected to be in the running to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday.
