Cycling: New Zealand's George Bennett holds on to win Gran Piemonte

A brave ride from New Zealand's George Bennett was rewarded with victory in the Gran Piemonte in Barolo on Wednesday. Bennett, riding for the in-form Jumbo-Visma team, hit the front over seven kilometres from the finish and just held on from the fast-finishing Diego Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates). Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) won the sprint for third place and so was denied victory in the race won by his father Adrie in 1987. Bennett becomes only the second Antipodean rider to win the famous one-day race, after Australia's Allan Davis won in 2004.
