Tennis News : Osaka withdraws from French Open after refusing to speak to the media

World number two Naomi Osaka has taken the decision to withdraw from this year's French Open as a result of the controversy surrounding her refusal to speak to the media during the tournament. On Sunday, a joint statement from Grand Slam organisers said Osaka could face expulsion from the French Open if she continued to refuse to address the media before and after matches. The 23-year-old said last week she would not carry out news conferences at Roland Garros to protect her mental health. Osaka had said she "never wanted to be a distraction" to the event. On Monday, Osaka revealed on Twitter she had "suffered long bouts of depression" since winning her first Grand Slam title, the US Open, in 2018. The four-time major winner added that she gets "huge waves of anxiety" before speaking to the world's media.
