There is no truth to a report about the possible cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics, according to Japan’s Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Manabu Sakai, a government spokesman. It has been reported that Japan’s government had privately concluded the already-delayed Tokyo Olympics would be cancelled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. According to another report, officials for the International Olympic Committee are working to quiet concerns over a potential cancellation of the 2020 Tokyo Games -- which were rescheduled from last year, but retain the 2020 name. Thomas Bach, the president of the IOC, spoke to a publication in Japan to calm things down as coronavirus cases surge in Japan, along with the rest of the world
