Tennis: Zverev & Kerber propel Germany to 3-0 win over Spain in Hopman Cup Group A opener

Garbine Muguruza, in the near court was trying to re-build her career after a poor 2018. She did won a set against the world number two Angelique Kerber but the German came back to take the women's tie of a lop-sided Hopman Cup tie. Angelique Kerber defeated Garbine Muguruza 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in women's singles to give Germany a 1-0 lead. Germany, who haven't won the Cup since the days of Boris Becker in 1995, are top seeds. In the men’s singles world number 4 Alex Zverev started the second set as a frustrated man against world number 126 David Ferrer. First he was broken, and then the Spaniard came up with an inspired pass to take the second set 6-4. But the 21-year found his composure to take the decider in a tie-break. Zverev clinched the tie with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 victory over David Ferrer. And last year's finalists wrapped things up with a straight-sets win in the mixed doubles. Spain are seeded seventh and have their work cut out to reach the semi-finals with France and Australia also in the group.
