Tennis : Wozniacki storms past Sakkari 6-2 6-2 in Charleston quarter-finals

Fifth seed, and 2011 champion, Caroline Wozniacki stormed past Maria Sakkari of Greece 6-2, 6-2 in the Charleston Open quarter-finals on Friday to set a semi-final clash with Croatia's Petra Martic. Sakkari had won the only previous meeting between the two - in Wuhan, China in 2017 - and came in on the back of victories against 2014 Charleston victor Andrea Petkovic and defending champion Kiki Bertens. But the 15th seed suffered from the start against the Dane, who has recently struggled with illness and a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. In the first set, Wozniacki went 4-0 up and closed it out 6-2 with three breaks of serve to Sakkari's one. Wozniacki wrapped up the match by taking the second set by the same score, closing out a marathon final game that lasted over 15 minutes by converting a fifth match point thanks to an unforced error from Sakkari.
