Spain's Feliciano Lopez saved three match points against Croatia's Borna Coric to advance to the second round of the China Open. The world number 71 caused an upset by beating the seventh seed when he survived a second set scare to win 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 in Beijing. Lopez lost his serve twice early on in the first set to trail 5-2 at one stage, but he reeled off the next five games to take the set 7-5. The second went with serve until 21-year-old Coric broke at the decisive moment when leading 6-5 to win the set 7-5. Lopez was again under pressure in the decider and in a marathon six-deuce game, the 37-year-old fought off three match points before bouncing back to break Coric, and served out the match 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 after two hours and 46 minutes on the court.
