IPL 2023: Dhoni reveals batting approach after wreaking havoc on DC

After wreaking havoc on the Delhi Capitals (DC) at Chepauk, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni revealed his strategy during the match's last overs.

Notably, the yellow team extended their winning streak in the present IPL to seven games with a 27-run victory over David Warner's Capitals.

For the uninitiated, the 41-year-old demonstrated his aggressive hitting abilities during the 19th over of the first innings, when facing Khaleel Ahmed. Dhoni smashed two maximums and a boundary to finish the over with 20 runs, helping CSK reach 167 runs in the innings.

Following the game, Dhoni remarked that he like to play an aggressive role in the death overs and is not particularly fond of rotating the strike.

Furthermore, he stated that while the execution in the first innings was not perfect, he was pleased that star all-rounders Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja were given opportunities to bat.

"We can still do better as a batting unit. There were a few shots you are better off avoiding on this pitch. There were a couple where the execution was not right; we can live with that. Good thing is, Moeen (Ali) and (Ravindra Jadeja) Jaddu got to bat,"

Dhoni told during the post-match presentation.

"As we get closer to the last phase, everyone has a few deliveries under their belt. My job is to hit a few deliveries. Don't make me run a lot. Happy to contribute whatever deliveries I am getting. That is how I am practising as well,"

He added.

CSK are second in the IPL Points Table with 15 points, thanks to seven wins and one no-result game. The MS Dhoni-led team have essentially secured their place in the play-offs as the season comes to a close.

However, the yellow team will be vying for a spot in Qualifier 1 but will face stiff opposition from arch-rivals Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. Meanwhile, the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, will attempt to secure their place in Qualifier 1 after topping the table with 16 points in 11 games.
