Ice Hockey: Pittsburgh Penguins defeat New York Islanders 2-1 in shootout thriller

The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 in a shootout at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Neither the Islanders or Penguins were able to score a goal in the first period of play. Both goalies, Casey DeSmith and Robin Lehner, made quality saves in the first period. The Islanders took a 1-0 lead in the second period thanks to a goal from Anthony Beauvillier. In the third period the Penguins tied the game 1-1 when Derick Brassard scored his fourth goal of the season. With the score tied 1-1, the game went to overtime. Neither the Penguins or Islanders scored a goal in overtime thus proceeding to a shootout. Jake Guentzel scored the game-winning goal in the shootout for the Penguins.
