Football: USA beat Cameroon 3-0 in their FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup opener

Sunshine Fontes scored twice as the USA beat Cameroon 3-0 in their FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Group C opener. It was an eventful first half and the CONCACAF champions opened the scoring on 20 minutes when 17-year-old Mia Fishel netted her own rebound, having hit the post. The USA doubled their lead just before half-time, after Lioness Cubs goalkeeper Christemilie Onomo fouled Maya Doms who was awarded a penalty. Onomo was also sent off for the incident. Fontes stepped up and converted the spot-kick past substitute goalkeeper Ngo Esse. Cameroon came out after the break pressing, but it wasn't to be in front of the goal. Fontes again hit the back of the net with ten minutes to go, striking the ball from outside the area from the counter-attack. Stephane Ndzana's team were then reduced to nine players when Claudia Dabda was shown a second yellow card in the latter stages of the match at the Estadio Profesor Alberto Suppici in Colonia.
