Football: Saudi Arabia beat Syria as both teams advance to quarters of AFC U-23 Champions

Saudi Arabia beat Syria 1-0 and move to the quarter-finals of the AFC U-23 Championships. In the other Group B fixture, Qatar drew 1-1 with Japan as both teams crashed out of the tournament. This result made way for Syria to advance in quarters despite losing their final group match to Saudis in the tournament. Feras Al-Birakan scored the winner in the 80th minute to give Saudi Arabia a 1-0 win over Syria. Saudi and Syria follow hosts Thailand, Australia, Korea Republic and defending champions Uzbekistan to the quarterfinals of the AFC U23 Championship.
