Football: Man City game “no friendly” for lacklustre Gladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach head coach Marco Rose has insisted Tuesday's Champions League game against Manchester City won't be treated like a friendly match after hinting on the weekend the Bundesliga side would prefer to have a training week. The west German team have lost six games in a row and slipped to tenth place in the Bundesliga after Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Augsburg, prompting Rose to claim his team may be better off training rather than playing this week. Gladbach lost their "home" tie 2-0 to English Premier League leaders Manchester City in Budapest's Puskas Arena last month and have opted to return there for Tuesday's "away" leg in order to avoid 14-day German quarantine requirements for journeys to the UK. Having paid a reported 1.5m Euro (1.8m USD) fine to UEFA to avoid traveling to England, Rose confirmed that Gladbach are considering stopping players from traveling for international duty next week to countries on Germany's quarantine list.
