Football: Benfica thrash Boavista 5-1 in the Portuguese La Liga

Benfica thrashed struggling Boavista 5-1 in the latest round of the Portuguese La Liga on Tuesday to keep pace with league leaders Porto at the top of the table. Boavista started brightly but found themselves behind inside ten minutes when Joao Felix headed home a Pizzi free kick. Pizzi scored the second goal of the night himself, side-footing the ball home from a Haris Seferovic cross to put the hosts 2-0 up with less than half an hour played. Consolation came for the visitors as halftime beckoned, with Talocha showing plenty of poise to exploit a rare Benfica defensive error. But the second half belonged to the hosts. A brace from Haris Seferovic ensured that the result was never in doubt, while a superb long-range strike from Alex Grimaldo provided the final flourish to the 5-1 win, four minutes from time.
