Football: Ajax benefit from VAR decisions to win 2-1 at Heerenveen

Runaway Dutch Eredivisie leaders Ajax won 2-1 away to Heerenveen on Sunday as they benefited from two VAR decisions which went their way. Mitchell van Bergen gave the host the lead with a fine individual goal after 26 minutes but six minutes later Heerenveen defender Jan Paul van Hecke was adjudged to have handled the ball at an Ajax corner and Dusan Tadic scored from the ensuing penalty. Ajax's winner came following a lengthy VAR deliberation over a possible offside after Lisandro Martinez's shot went in off Ajax teammate Sebastian Haller on the hour mark. Ajax's win sees them end the weekend 11 points ahead of second-placed PSV Eindhoven, having played a game less.
