Cricket News: KKR CEO reveals having 'no regrets' for not retaining Gill

Shubman Gill, a 23-year-old Indian batter, has quickly established himself as one of the finest in the world. Gill has been creating havoc for Gujarat Titans in the present edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, following outstanding exploits for India.

However, prior to joining Gujarat in the IPL 2022, Gill was a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders, but the two-time champions let him go at the 2022 mega auction.

Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, and Ajinkya Rahane, who have all formerly represented KKR, are also performing well with their new teams.

In response, KKR CEO and managing director Venky Mysore stated that it was never a regret to let go of talents like Gill and blamed it on IPL rules that allow teams to retain just a certain number of players.

"There is actually happiness when we see some of the players we have developed go to other franchises and do well -- Shubman Gill is an example, the limitation as you know, the rules the IPL and BCCI make. In 2022 auction, we were allowed to keep only four players. There's always a debate. There is always eight or nine whom we would like to keep, you had to select four out of those,"

Mysore told reporters on the sidelines of Knight Golf event in Kolkata.

"It's never a regret, and the decisions were made based on the set of information that was available at that point. We believe those were the right decisions we made, but it's always tough to lose some players,"

he added.

Gill's time with Kolkata appears to be a past now, now, he has played a vital part with Gujarat Titans winning the IPL 2022 title.

Furthermore, he has been in fantastic form at the ongoing T20 carnival, scoring 333 runs in eight matches so far. With his knocks, he hopes to win the IPL 2023 Orange Cap and lead Gujarat to earn another triumph in 2023.
