Basketball: Zalgiris Kaunas beat Olimpia Milano 83-78 for first home win of Euroleague season

Zalgiris Kaunas recorded their first home win of the season at the sixth attempt in Euroleague on Thursday as they beat Olimpia Milan 83-78. The outcome remained uncertain with under a minute to go until Nate Wolters and Brandon Davies both scored two-pointers to give the home side a seven-point cushion. Davies top scored for Zalgiris with 27 points while Mike James led the way for Olimpia on 17. The visitors led 23-18 at the end of the first quarter, but Zalgiris scored 22 points to Milan's 8 to lead 40-31 at the halfway stage. Zalgiris stretched that lead further in the third quarter before Milan fought back to trail 60-58 with 10 minutes to play. Even when Zalgiris opened up another eight point lead in the final quarter, Milan once again closed the gap until those late scores gave Zalgiris some breathing space. Zalgiris Kaunas move up to ninth in the table with a 4-6 record while Milan drop to 6-4 and are now sixth.
