Handball: Defending champions Denmark beat Qatar 32-23 at Men's World Handball Champs

Defending champions Denmark eased to a 32-23 victory over Qatar in Group II of the Main Round of the Men's World Handball Championship in Cairo. The two sides traded blows in the opening minutes, however, Denmark took control and raced to a 10-goal lead in the second half. Mathias Gidsel was named player of the match with six goals and five assists, while Mikkel Hansen contributed eight goals to the victory. A late fightback saw Qatar's Frankis Marzo score 12 goals to finish the night as the competition's top goalscorer with 37, but Denmark saw out the win by a margin of nine goals. Denmark top the table with three wins from three, while Qatar are fourth with their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals slim. Next up for Denmark is Japan, while Qatar play against Bahrain, both on Sunday (23rd January).
