Football News: Stage set for Women’s football Gold Cup

The Indian Women's National team is all set to cross swords against continental rivals Iran, Myanmar and Nepal in the Gold Cup which will be played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from February 9-15. The girls are currently high on confidence courtesy their four wins in their last 4 Friendlies against Hong Kong and Indonesia respectively. India’s Senior Women’s Team will be facing Islamic Republic of Iran in their first match on the opening day. The four-nation tournament, the first such competition for the Senior Women’s National team in India is being organised by AIFF in association with the Government of Odisha. Under coach Maymol Rocky, the side has made massive strides in the last few months as they went past the first round of the Olympic qualifiers for the very first time in November 2018. Following it up, in January, the team embarked on a four-match winning streak against Hong Kong and Indonesia, scoring 11 goals and keeping three clean sheets.
