Cycling News: Junior World Track Cycling Championships 2019

After being part of India's historic gold medal-winning Sprint team at the Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Frankfurt, Germany, a day earlier, Esow Alben added another medal to India's kitty on Thursday by clinching a bronze medal in the men's Keirin event. In the final for positions 1 to 6, Esow finished behind silver medallist Sam Gallagher of Australia and winner Konstantinos Livanos of Greece in the six-lap race. Earlier on Wednesday, the Indian junior men's team of Esow Alben, L Ronaldo Singh, Y Rojit Singh and Jemsh Singh created history at the ongoing Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Frankfurt, Germany. The Indian junior team won the gold medal in the sprint race. With this victory, India recorded its first cycling gold at the world level. The Indian junior team is currently ranked number two in the world rankings after Malaysia. The Indian team took a total of 44.625 seconds to take the top spot, trailing Australia by 0.056 seconds. The Aussies, who were leading in the first two laps, were stunned as India won the final lap in just 12.915 seconds.
