Cricket News: Virat Kohli world class player, will do well in series: Anshuman Gaekwad

Indian captain Virat Kohli was nothing short of inspiration through the course of the second day of the first Test at Edgbaston as he stood tall to score 149 against England. The stage was perfectly set for the Indian batsmen after England were bowled out for 287 in the first session. The openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay didn't look too troubled in the first few overs, but the wickets kept falling as India looked in troubled waters at 169/7. Kohli showed his cricketing intelligence and skill to take the England attack apart in that phase. As England kept getting defensive, Kohli became all the more brutal to find gaps with effortless ease and the lead kept coming down in leaps and bounds. He played a lone hand till the end and played an imperative role in taking India to 274 and kept England’s lead down to just 13 runs at the end of first innings. He scored 92 of the 105 runs added by the last three wickets. The 10th wicket standalone contributed 57, of which Kohli made 56. It was Kohli’s 22nd Test ton and 15th as captain. He also celebrated his ton by kissing a ring he was wearing around his neck as wife Anushka applauded in the stands. Also, in his previous tour of England in 2014, Kohli had aggregated 134 runs in 10 innings. He surpassed that total in one epic knock on Thursday.
