Cricket News: Steve Smith scores consecutive tons for Australia

Steve Smith scores his second consecutive ton of his comeback Test as Australia set England a daunting 398 to win the Ashes opener at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After conceding a 90-run lead in 1st innings Australia were tottering at 75 for 3. Smith and Travis Head struck a 130-run partnership where Head scored a half-century. After Head'd dismissal Matthew Wade joined Smith and the two struck another century partnership for Australia to take the game away from England's reach. Australia finally declared at 487/7 in their second innings as they capitalised on the absence from the home side's attack of the injured James Anderson. England walked out to bat in 2nd innings needing 398 for victory, the most they have made in the fourth innings to win a Test was 332/7 against Australia at Melbourne back in 1928/29.
