Cricket News: Sri Lanka create history in Port Elizabeth

Sri Lanka created history in Port Elizabeth with a brilliant eight-wicket win, to take the series 2-0, becoming the first Asian nation to win a Test series in South Africa. With just 137 runs needed at the start of play on Day 3, Kusal Mendis and Oshada Fernando completed the chase without any fuss within the first session. Despite having lost two wickets towards the end of play on Day 2, and being one batsman short, Mendis and Fernando were unperturbed. The pair, unbeaten at stumps last night, added a century stand for the third wicket, starting off play with utmost confidence as boundaries flowed off their bat with ease. They were barely tested by South Africa's bowlers on the third day, negating them with authority and positive intent. Mendis reached his half-century in quick time, as did Fernando, and remained unbeaten on 84 and 75 respectively as Sri Lanka crossed the line in style with the former smashing Keshav Maharaj for a six to tie the scores, before a single to provide the finishing touches. The pair added 163 runs in their unbeaten association that came off just 213 balls.
