Cricket News: Sourav Ganguly roped in as Delhi Capitals advisor

Former India Captain and cricketing icon Sourav Ganguly has joined the Delhi Capitals franchise of the Indian Premier League as an Advisor. In his new role, Ganguly will work closely with the team’s head coach Ricky Ponting, and guide the team in its quest to bring the IPL trophy to Delhi. The Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals team will kick-off their 2019 season against Mumbai Indians on March 24 at the Wankhede Stadium before playing their first home game against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the Feroz Shah Kotla on March 26. It will be interesting on Delhi’s part as the franchise is yet to lift the IPL title. While considering the aggressive approach, Ganguly has a lot on an offer for Delhi which is in itself a good sign for the franchise. While talking about Ganguly’s IPL career, he has enjoyed his stint thoroughly. Since the inception of IPL in 2008, Ganguly has represented hometown franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. In between, he has also led now-defunct Pune Warriors India Ganguly featured in 59 matches until 2012. He amassed 1,349 runs at an average of 25.45. Also, he also scored with seven half-centuries with his highest score of 91. During the first five IPL editions, Ganguly bagged 10 wickets while conceding 363 runs off 276 deliveries. Talking about Delhi’s performance, In the eleventh edition of the IPL, Delhi ended up on the bottom of the points table losing nine games out of 14. In the first two editions of IPL, Delhi made it to the semi-finals before their downslide continued to haunt the franchise. In 2012, they qualified for the playoffs but their performance went down after every passing year.
