Chess News: India's D Gukesh becomes second youngest Grandmaster in the world

Tamil Nadu’s D Gukesh, a 12-year-old boy became India’s youngest and the world’s second youngest Grandmaster after achieving his third and final GM norm at the 17th Delhi International Open Chess tournament. Gukesh overtook the mark set by his state mate from Tamil Nadu R Praganandha in June last year.The boy from Chennai achieved the feat at 12 years, seven months and 17 days. He achieved his third and final GM norm at the Delhi International Open Chess tournament after beating compatriot DK Sharma in the ninth round. Gukesh has now become India's 59th Grand Master. Ukraine's Sergey Karjakin remains the youngest ever Grandmaster having achieved the feat at the age of 12 years and seven months in 2002.
