Basketball News: ‘BFI goes gaga’ over Amjyot Singh’s ban

It happened at one night in the month of November when four members of Indian basketball team Amjoyt Singh, Arshpreet Bhullar, Amritpal Singh and Amaan Sandhu went out allegedly without informing the officials from the national camp which was being conducted in Bengaluru ended up having the most unexpected wee hours of their lives. After the entire issue came into light, it was found out that the players had consumed alcohol along with being involved in a roadside scuffle. Within the time of a few days, a stringent action was taken up by the Basketball Federation of India after a detailed inspection. As a repercussion of the entire matter, In December, Basketball Federation of India (BFI) had handed a three-year ban to Amjyot Singh for consuming alcohol. Arshpreet Bhullar has been banned for one year, while Amritpal Singh and Amaan Sandhu have been issued warnings. Power Sportz was the first channel to break that news and suddenly after that, it became the highlight story of almost every broadcasting medium. A few days back the Punjab and Haryana High Court had issued a notice to the Basketball Federation of India and Sports Authority of India after a petition filed by cager Amjyot Singh of Chandigarh against the three year-ban imposed on him by the Federation. The case was listed for hearing on March 16 and according to the latest updates, the honourable court found all the charges right and kept the ban stay on Amjyot. It clearly goes on to show that Amjyot will not be able to play in any tournaments recognised by BFI for three years till 2022.
