Banned Inderjeet to miss Tokyo Olympics

The anti-doping disciplinary panel of NADA handed a four-year suspension to shot putter Inderjeet Singh for failing a dope test prior to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Inderjeet, who was the first Indian track and field athlete to qualify for Rio, will serve a retrospective ineligibility period effective July 25, 2016, the day he was provisionally suspended by the NADA after his urine sample showed the presence of "non- specified substance". This means the former Asian champion's ban will come to an end on July 24, 2020, which rules him out of Tokyo Olympics qualifiers. The panel though admitted that NADA and National Dope Testing Laboratory did not follow the standard WADA norms while collecting the sample, as claimed by Inderjeet, but concluded that the athlete could not prove that he didn't violate anti-doping norms.
