Two-times Olympic medallist PV Sindhu garnered appreciation from every corner of the country after clinching Swiss Open 2022. Sindhu outsmarted Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-16, 21-8 at the St Jakobshalle to win the title. More than the win, it was a challenge well completed for Sindhu who lost to Spain’s Carolina Marin in last year’s edition. St Jakobshalle has been an awesome venue for PV Sindhu, who won the World Championships title here in 2019 and showed the world what she is capable of. In between the Tokyo Olympics bronze and post World Championships gold, Sindhu’s performance witnessed many ups & downs, but she would, in every match, showcase some exceptional class with either her skills or strategy. She is the second Indian woman to win the Swiss Open, Saina Nehwal having won in 2011 and 2012. Sindhu has now won two titles in just over two months. India’s highest-ranked player has significantly regained the winning momentum ahead of crucial events like Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and the world championships.
