Badminton News: PV Sindhu enters Japan Open QF

A happy hunting day for Indian shuttlers at the Japan Open as PV Sindhu and B Sai Praneeth enter the quarter-finals. In women's singles, fifth-seed Sindhu had to fight it out against Aya Ohori of Japan as she came back from a game behind to register an 11-21, 21-10, 21-13 victory against the local girl in a match that lasted more 61 minutes. This was reigning Olympic silver medallist 8th win in as many meetings. In men's singles event, there were mixed results as B Sai Praneeth beat Kanta Tsuneyama of Japan 21-13, 21-16 in just 45 minutes to progress to the next round. In the previous match, Praneeth went on to beat World No. 11 Japan's Kenta Nishimoto. Praneeth will now be facing Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in the quarterfinals. However, there was a disappointment in other men's singles match as H.S. Prannoy lost to Rasmus Gemke of Denmark 9-21, 15-21 to crash out of the tournament. HS Prannoy turned out to be a no match for his opponent. In men's doubles event, the Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat China's Huang Kai Xiang and Liu Cheng 15-21, 21-11,21-19 in a match that lasted for 53 minutes to enter the quarter-final.
