Badminton News: Disappointing performances by Indian shuttlers a major cause of concern

Trails of disappointing performances by ace Indian shuttlers in two legs of Thailand Open have certainly given them a reality check ahead of Tokyo Olympics 2021. According to some badminton experts, the Indian shuttlers need to focus on their physical strength, while some say that they need to focus on the amount of homework they do before the start of any tournament. India’s challenge at Thailand Open second leg ended after mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponappa lost to Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai in the semi-finals 20-22, 18-21, 21-12. Earlier, star India shuttler PV Sindhu lost to Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 13-21, 9-21 in women’s singles, and Sameer Verma was shown the exit gate by Denmark’s Anders Antonsen 13-21, 21-19, 20-22 in a quarterfinal contest. These results in a way sum it up all for the Indian shuttlers who are aiming medals at the forthcoming Tokyo Summer Games. The big question is, how India will get medals in an event which is considered as the biggest sporting extravaganza and where players from all around the globe will take part. With one more event in the pipeline set to commence from January 27, the Asian leg will be going to conclude and so will be Indian shuttlers’ chance to prove their mettle. Not just the Indian badminton fans but Badminton Association of India is now apprehensive over their shuttlers’ results in the coming tournaments, so it’s high time now for them to pull up their socks and do whatever it takes to come out with flying colours in the upcoming tournaments.
