Badminton News: Ajay Jayaram upsets top seed, cruises into quarter-final

Indian shuttlers Ajay Jayaram and Rituparna Das progressed to the quarterfinals of the USD 75,000 Vietnam Open Tour Super 100 tournament in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday. Jayaram, who had finished runners-up at White Nights, defeated top seed Ygor Coelho 22-20, 21-14 in straight games to enter last eight of the tournament. In women’s singles, former national champion Rituparna Das beat Chinese Taipei’s Sung Shuo Yun 21-8, 21-14 to enter the quarterfinals of the tournament. Jayaram will now face Xiaodong Sheng of Canada while Rituparna will face Thailand’s qualifier.
