Tokyo Paralympic News : Krishna Nagar bags gold, India finish Paralympics with 19 medals

Krishna Nagar gave India its fifth gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics Games with a hard-fought win over Hong Kong's Chu Man Kai in the final of the men's singles (SH6) event. This was the second gold medal for India in badminton in Tokyo after Pramod Bhagat won the men's singles title in the SL3 event. Krishna Nagar produced yet another fine showing to win the final 21-17, 16-21, 21-17 in a match lasting a total of 43 minutes. Earlier in the day Suhas L. Yathiraj went down fighting to France’s World No 1 Lucas Mazur in three well-fought games in the final of the Men’s Singles SL4 class and had to be satisfied with the silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Yathiraj lost 15-21, 21-17, 21-15 in just over an hour to settle for a silver medal. India now have five gold, eight silver and six bronze medals to be placed 24th. India had won just four medals in the last edition in Rio while the total count from the 1972 edition when the country competed for the first time till these Tokyo Games was 12.
